Working in Finland: employment or independent services?
Ask first who is the client or employer, who controls the work, who provides tools, how payment is agreed and who carries responsibility for the result. Employment, independent contracting and entrepreneurship are not interchangeable labels. A platform may help with discovery or coordination, but it does not automatically create a right to work or decide your tax status.
If you are already in Finland, check the conditions of your current residence permit before starting freelance work, using a service marketed as “light entrepreneurship”, or running a business.
Work rights and residence status are separate from ownership
Registering a company or owning a share does not by itself grant permission to work in Finland. The Finnish Immigration Service explains different rules for employees, entrepreneurs, start-up entrepreneurs and holders of residence permits. Check the guidance for your nationality, permit and actual role before accepting work.
For an employer or international project, also check the practical documents and obligations that apply to the relationship. Do not rely on a general statement that work in Finland is easy or automatically available.
How to prepare to offer services in Finland
Describe the service, delivery area, language, availability, price basis and expected result. Keep records of quotes, agreements, invoices and expenses. Ask an accountant or tax professional how the activity should be reported in your circumstances and check any sector-specific requirement before advertising.
For a new service, test demand with a small and clearly defined offer. This is useful whether you work alone, join a team or build a company around the service.
Offering services through WOBiapp: the launch status
WOBiapp is presented publicly as preparing for launch. Its release is being prepared in stages; a public catalogue, open registration, available orders and guaranteed income have not been confirmed. Follow the official site for updates instead of treating this page as an employment offer.
When the service opens, users will still need to check their own right to work, tax position and the terms that apply to the specific activity. Availability of a platform does not replace those checks.
How to find a job in Finland
To find a job in Finland, look for suitable vacancies, tailor your CV to the role and check the employer’s skills and language requirements. Start with Job Market Finland for employment information and official services. Check your right to work for your own circumstances. Offering independent services in Finland is a separate route; WOBiapp is being prepared for service providers and customers rather than as a promise of employment.
When the question is about starting a service business
If your next question is how to start or organise a service business, you can separately review the paid business consultation options from Torgex. It is a business consultation service, not an immigration authority, employment agency, law firm or tax adviser, and it does not guarantee work or income.
