Define the key employee role for your business in Finland
Explain what should change after three, six and twelve months. For a sales lead, this might be a reliable sales process and forecast. For a production manager, it may be safety, delivery dates and stable output. For a finance specialist, it may be reliable data and reporting.
State which decisions the employee can make, what budget they control and who receives reports. Separate required skills from skills that can be learned. Also explain which decisions remain with the owner, such as final signatures, hiring or bank negotiations.
Define terms and budget early
Prepare a realistic budget range, working pattern, location, expected start date and any probation arrangement permitted for the role. Employment terms in Finland depend on the position, industry and applicable collective agreements, so a standard template must be checked for the specific job.
Decide whether the need is an employment relationship, an independent service or temporary work. The title of a contract does not decide its legal nature. If you are unsure, obtain employment and tax advice before publishing the terms.
Choose a recruitment channel and follow the Osakkaaksi project
Use a precise job description, professional networks, recommendations and official employer channels. Work in Finland provides material about recruiting international specialists, while Suomi.fi explains basic employer steps.
For a temporary task, a separate service may be suitable, but do not call it a guaranteed route to employment. WOBiapp is preparing for launch and does not replace employer registration, an active recruitment channel or a work permit.
Assess ability through relevant work
Use the same structured questions for each candidate: past results, working style, difficult situations and priorities. Give a small task connected with the role and explain the assessment criteria in advance. Check references lawfully and proportionately, respecting candidate confidentiality.
If the person will work in Finland, check the right to work and required documents in the way applicable to the employer. Citizenship or residence alone does not answer the question. Do not request information that is not needed for the hiring decision.
After the offer, decide who prepares the contract, who handles required notifications and who grants access. During the first weeks, one clear result and regular feedback are usually more useful than a long list of expectations.
Document the relationship and first month
Written terms should cover the role, pay, working time, confidentiality, rights to work results, reporting and ending the relationship. For a management role, clarify authority to sign contracts and represent the company. A company stake is a separate ownership decision, not a normal part of employment.
Create a first-month plan covering access, training, customers, safety and decisions that the owner still approves. Set short review points so that a problem is noticed before it becomes expensive.
If the role or search needs to change
Separate a permanent role into a temporary project, a consultation and a future position. This can help test the need and describe the work more accurately, but it must not be used to avoid employment duties. Prepare the facts for a professional review when the classification is uncertain.
If the business needs both a partner and an employee, describe those roles separately: shared ownership and employment have different responsibilities. Osakkaaksi.fi describes plans for business leadership, board members and key people, alongside ownership and partnership opportunities. Follow the project’s launch; an active candidate search is not confirmed. For a separate business-management question, review Torgex and agree the consultation language and scope.
